Barolo & Friends Event in Prague

16th January 2024: I Vini del Piemonte returns to Prague for the third edition of the event dedicated to Piedmontese wines and aimed at local sector operators

For the third year in a row, the Consortium I Vini del Piemonte returns to Prague on Tuesday 16th January 2024 for the third edition of the event dedicated to Piedmontese wines and aimed at local sector operators (importers, ho.re.ca, sommeliers, journalists, etc.)

A top-notch tasting event is expected that aims to conquer a market where Italy has maintained the absolute first place in wine exports for years, with a volume of over 500,000 hl and a value of some 45 million euros. A constantly growing trend, supported by the continuous spread of wine culture in the country, rapid changes in lifestyle and the continuous increase in the purchasing power of the Czechs.

The initiative will be entirely dedicated to trade operators: importers, distributors, sommeliers, ho.re.ca and journalists. The event is designed both for those looking for an importer and for those companies that, already imported, want to promote themselves in this emerging market.

PROGRAMME

  • 13.30–14.30: Masterclass for professional operators led by Michal Ŝetka
  • 14.30–17.30: Walkaround tasting for professional operators

WHY THE CZECH REPUBLIC?

  • Italian wine ranks in first place for imported products (over 30%)
  • The sector of quality wines and fine wines registers a growth trend
  • The country is confirmed among the nations of Eastern Europe with the highest growth rate
  • The demand for imported wine in the last 5 years has grown in value by almost 20%, to 215 million euros
  • Italy recorded an increase of 29% in the same period for a total value of approximately 50 million euros.
  • The wine is sold for 28% in the Horeca channel: this distribution channel is also of great interest, given the tourist importance of the capital with its large number of restaurants, hotels and wine bars.
  • In large-scale retail, therefore, medium-low quality wine is mainly sold in hypermarket and supermarket chains. Specialty stores, from wine shops to food and wine specialty stores, mainly sell imported wines that are, on average, of higher quality. The online sales channel is growing.
